#MedievalMonday ~ Laurel O’Donnell

I love St. Patrick’s Day. For me it signals the arrival of spring and the impending end of the school year. To celebrate, I’ve invited Laurel O’Donnell to join me. Laurel  lives in Illinois with her four cherished children, her beloved husband and her five cats. She finds precious time every day to escape into the medieval world and bring her characters to life in her writing. Today she is sharing a snippet from her Medieval Romance, A Knight with Grace.

She dropped her chin as if in confusion.
He stepped toward her. “Grace. I promised to see you safely to your father. I intend to honor that vow.”

Please join Laurel for the continuing excerpt next week at Lane MacFarland’s blog – http://lanemcfarland.com/

BLURB: Lady Grace Willoughby defies her father’s orders to marry Sir William de Tracy and escapes with a friend. She has no intention of wedding a cursed man, a man ostracized from the church, a man who would only doom any future children they might have to the fires of Hell.  She prays for a knight to rescue her.

Excommunicated and outcast for a horrible crime in his past, Sir William de Tracy searches for forgiveness. Marriage has never crossed his mind until Lord Willoughby commissions him to retrieve his fleeing daughter and honor the dying wish of his father by marrying Grace.

But things are not as they seem. And when an assassin tries to kill Grace, William must choose between his soul and the woman he has come to love. Can William and Grace overcome their past and find the redemption and love both are so desperately seeking?

#MedievalMonday ~ Ceci Giltenan

March has come to the forest with a roar. So cold! Especially after many days and nights in the 70s. At least we have hot romances to keep us warm. Today my guest is Ceci Giltenan. Ceci must agree, as she and her husband live in southwest Florida because she loves palm trees and believes any day that she doesn’t have to wear socks is a good day. Here is an excerpt from her Medieval Romance, A Wee Highland Predicament: A Duncurra Legacy Novel.

“Which raises the question, what’s a wee lassie from the Highlands doing in Edinburgh? Ye can’t be more than fifteen.”

“I’m eighteen,” she said, indignantly. “And I was there—at court—with my family.”

“And who is yer family?”

“I’m a MacLennan. Laird MacLennan is my brother by marriage. I’m Ailsa MacLennan. What clan are ye from, Lucas?”

#MedievalMonday ~ Jenni Fletcher

Well, gods and goddesses, the countdown to summer is on. At least I have some great Medieval Romances to keep my mind off the number of school days left and to make the days pass more quickly. Today my guest is visiting all the way from the other side of the world. Please welcome Jenni Fletcher. Jenni was born on the north coast of Scotland and now lives in Yorkshire, where she writes historical romance novels set in the Medieval and Victorian eras. She studied English at Cambridge and Hull Universities before starting to write stories of her own, combining her love of history and literature with a special emphasis on alpha males and feisty heroines. Today she shares an excerpt from her Medieval Romance, Besieged and Betrothed.

‘A commander shouldn’t surrender just to save themselves, isn’t that what you said?’ She jutted her chin out, though the flash of fear in her eyes gave her away. ‘Tell me something about my father.’

‘What?’ He blinked at the abrupt change of subject.

‘I need to know if I can trust you. You said that you were friends. Tell me something that proves it.’

‘You want me to prove that I’m trustworthy? I’m not the one who drugged your wine, my lady. Trust works both ways.’

‘I know, but…please.’

BLURB:  Ruthless warrior Lothar the Frank has laid siege to Castle Haword, but there’s a fiery redhead in his way—and she’s not backing down!

More tomboy than trembling maiden, Lady Juliana Danville would rather die than lose the castle. When she’s caught on opposite sides of a war, a marriage bargain is brokered to bring peace. But is blissful married life possible when Juliana has a dangerous secret hidden within the castle walls?

#NewRelease ~ Mask of the #Highlander

It’s here! After weeks of rewriting, the new, expanded version of Mask of the Highlander is here. I realized I had not taken advantage of the prequel by packing it with all the information needed to set up the Gods of the #Highlands series and lay the foundation for the world I had built. So, I went back to the drawing board and added another 40,000 words. That’s about 125 more pages, if you’re counting. I’m thrilled to present the 2nd edition of my Paranormal Romance, Mask of the Highlander, for the low price of #99cents. Here is an excerpt.

Time stood without end. It seemed an eternity, an eternity in the darkest pit of hell, passed as she stared down at his expectant face. He had never kissed her, much less asked her for anything. He took what he wanted, with as much pain and suffering as he could inflict with the taking. Kissing had not been a demand he had made of her during those three days of hell.

Kenna swallowed the bile that rose to the back of her throat. She bit down on her bottom lip to stop its trembling. She glanced around the baily. Expectant faces loomed all around her, waiting to see what would happen. The entire household knew of his mistreatment of her. He was cruel to everyone, but her cries for mercy must surely have been heard during those first days. Thankfully, no one had ever mentioned it, saving her the humiliation of having to face her brutalization out loud.

Get your copy of Mask of the Highlander by clicking here. Only $0.99 for a limited time.

BLURBOnce she was afraid to touch him. Now she’s afraid to let go.

Forced to marry to avoid war between clans, Kenna Cleary endured three days of her new husband’s painful brutality, unaware of his demon heritage. Leaving her for dead, he rode off to battle the English. In the five years of his absence, she bore him a daughter, increased his holdings, and gained the love and respect of his people. Now he’s home. Must she and the clan learn to endure his cruelty once more?

Can an ancient Celtic god find peace in the mortal world?

The Laird of Domhnul has returned from war a changed man—moreso than his wife can possibly know. Now the warrior faces a new battle, one for his wife’s heart, and his peoples’ trust. He must walk the knife’s edge of deception and danger, all while learning to manage the supernatural power flaring inside him and discovering a heritage he never imagined.

But when his father embroils both them in a deadly plot, can the couple find a way to prevent war between their clans?

#MedievalMonday ~ Judith Sterling

Six more weeks of winter. I’m not sure I can stand it. I love summer, partly because for the past twenty years I’ve taught school in my spare time. These days I long for summer. I only know one way to combat the winter blues and that’s with a good book. And what kind of book is better than a Medieval Romance? Today, Judith Sterling is visiting the forest. Judith’s love of history and passion for the paranormal infuse everything she writes. Born in that sauna called Florida, she craved cooler climes, and once the travel bug bit, she lived in England, Scotland, Sweden, Wisconsin, Virginia, and on the island of Nantucket. Today she is sharing an excerpt from her new release, Shadow of the Swan.

From the other high-backed chair, Robert eyed the pie that lay unprotected on the table between them. “Do you plan to eat that?”

A predator drawn to his prey. She shrugged. “I suppose not. Do you want it?”

“I thought you’d never ask.” He attacked the food.

#Medieval Monday ~ Barbara Bettis

Medieval Monday is back! I’m so glad to be starting up again, sharing some classic favorite and hot new Medieval Romances. My guest this week is Barbara Bettis.  Barbara is an award-winning author who as always loved history and English. As a college freshman, she briefly considered becoming an archaeologist until she realized there likely would be bugs and snakes involved. And math.  She now lives in Missouri, where by day she’s a mild-mannered English teacher, and by night she’s an intrepid plotter of tales featuring heroines to die for—and heroes to live for. Here is an excerpt from her Medieval Romance, The Lady of the Forest.

Kate secured the thick fabric to the bottom of the narrow window and set about lighting candles in the small cottage. A scratch at the door made her shield the flame of the stub she held.

“Come,” she called.

Jamie slid through, then shut the door quickly. “They got ’em.”

She placed the candle in a metal holder. “Were they hurt?”

“Naw. The knight went up on a horse, but Oscar and Sam’l were took back in the cart. I stopped by the kitchen later. Sir Mort be mad as fire, but he couldn’t do nothing to Sam’l, cause as how Sam’l’s the best smith around. #MedievalMonday ~ The #Vikings by #Bambi Lynn

I can’t do it. I’ve tried. I have writer friends who are cranking out novels every couple of months. But I need more time. I feel productive if I can get a full-length novel out every six months. Most readers are voracious and are devouring books as fast as they come out. How to compete? Never fear. The Vikings are here!
That’s right. I LOVE Vikings. AND I love erotica (shhh ~ that’s a secret). So to feed my passion and keep my fans interested between books, I’ve started an erotic series of Viking shorts. These are quick reads: 25-40 pages. The first four are available now, and the final episode will be out in February. Episode I, Gunnar, is permanently #99cents and Episode IV, Thorleif, is on sale for a limited time. If you have half an hour or so, give one of them a try. But be warned: these stories are HOT, HOT, HOT!

Gunnar ~ Gunnar Sigurdsen needs a place for his band of Norsemen to hold up for the winter. An unguarded stronghold at the mouth of the Seine River is the perfect target.

Oliana du Fossé waits helplessly for her brute of husband to claim her. She doesn’t realize she is being seduced by an invader from the north until it is too late.

Will Gunnar and Oliana set aside their differences long enough to create a safe haven that just might last longer than a season?

Wulf ~ When her village is overrun by vicious barbarians from the north, Farin becomes a bed slave to the most savage of them all. Will her growing affection for her master’s friend get in the way of the revenge she has planned?

After losing his wife and infant son, Wulf let his friends convince him to give up the life of a simple farmer and become a raider under the leadership of Gunnar Sigurdsen. Now they’ve captured a stronghold in Francia, fat with treasure and slaves. One slave in particular, a haunting image of Wulf’s wife, threatens to drive a wedge between him and his friend, a breech he cannot afford.

Bron ~ After escaping the brutal tyrant who holds her under his boot, Leda’s newfound hope is shattered to discover her safe-haven to be nothing more than a den of brutal Norsemen, intent on conquering all of Francia and claiming its riches for their own. When she is offered as a bed slave to the fiercest Viking of them all, she despairs to realize freedom comes at a price.

Brondulf Adilson has struck terror into his enemies for as long as he can remember, to include the women who share his bed. Shunned for his frightful appearance, he doesn’t expect compliance from his new thrall and is resigned to forcing her to his will.

But the beauty he finds himself saddle with turns out to be anything but meek and compliant.

Thorleif ~ Thorleif Rolvsson has been captured by the enemy. The steel of the executioner’s axe is cold against the base of his skull. Will a single night of passion change his fate? Or will he dine with his sons in Valhalla?

The Queen of the Franks has needs. She believes God has sent the pagan Norseman at her feet to fulfill those needs. But can she claim the blessing she has prayed for without losing her heart?
